Workforce

Businesses continue to face labour shortages and are having difficulty filling job vacancies. Trends are shifting, and more and more full-time, permanent jobs are going unfulfilled.

Regional Employment Lands

There continues to be a lack of available land and buildings/facilities to meet demand and needs from inquiries. The need for a regional employment lands strategy is growing steadily.

Housing & Transportation

Businesses are reporting that employees are having a difficult time finding housing, which is impacting their ability to hire employees and have them relocate. The same is true for job seekers accessing reliable and affordable transportation to and from local workplaces, especially those workplaces located off bus routes and for jobs with shifts that don’t correlate with transit schedules.

Peterborough & the Kawarthas is in the process of undergoing significant changes to the economic development and tourism delivery model in the region. Community Futures Peterborough is now operating the regional Small Business Enterprise Centre (Business Advisory Centre).

Beginning in 2025, the City of Peterborough and Peterborough County will assume full responsibility for economic development and tourism services, and Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development will cease operations at the end of 2024.
