A Look Back on 2020: Economic Development during COVID-19

Each year in April, the Board of Directors of Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development holds the corporations’ annual general meeting. Last year was the first time our corporation held this event virtually, and we certainly didn’t expect to have to do so a second year in a row. Economic Development is complex work at any time however, 2020 was definitely one for the history books. As an organization, we learned to pivot and adapt along with everyone else, and while it wasn’t the year we were expecting following the release of our new Future Ready Regional Economic Development Strategy, we were able to accomplish a lot by building on the priorities of local businesses and the challenges identified by the Mayor and Warden’s COVID-19 Economic Task Force.

On April 29th, we released our annual report summarizing key activities and highlights from 2020, and encourage members of the local community to read the report to become more familiar with the work undertaken by our organization last year.

Despite a rocky start to 2021, together with our partners, we are looking forward to recovering and rebuilding the local economy.
