New Physician recruiter for Peterborough & the Kawarthas Region

By Kelly Jessup

[PETERBOROUGH, ON]: The Peterborough Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee (PPRRC) is pleased to announce that they have retained the services of a new physician recruiter to bring more family physicians to the region. Kevin Kirkpatrick, Founder and Vice President of Avery Professional Group, started on June 21, 2022.

Working closely with the PPRRC, Kevin will be responsible for positioning Peterborough & the Kawarthas as an ideal destination to practise family medicine. Kevin is looking forward to working with the Peterborough Family Health Team, the five different Family Health Organizations, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, and independent physicians to share the key advantages and opportunities of working and living in this region.

Physician Recruitment is funded through the City of Peterborough and Peterborough County to help address the family physician shortage in this region.

“On behalf of the Peterborough Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, we are excited to bring Kevin on board. Kevin brings an extensive background in this field, previously recruiting physicians to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, St. Michael’s Hospital, Humber River Hospital, and more recently, attracting family physicians for TELUS across Canada. The Committee oversaw a rigorous selection process, and we are delighted to work with Kevin on this important activity,” stated Mike VandenBroek, Chair of the Peterborough Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee.

“The City of Peterborough is expecting to grow by approximately 41% over the next planning horizon and ensuring that current and future residents will have access to a primary care physician will be critical to managing growth and responding to the needs of our community. Supporting the PPRRC with funding and attracting a new physician recruiter is moving us in the right direction.” said Kemi Akapo, City Councillor Representative on the PPRRC.

“Residents of Peterborough County are finding it more difficult to find a family doctor. As more residents move to the region, the need for a primary care physician will continue to increase. Peterborough County is pleased to support and fund this program to help bring new family physicians to the region. We are looking forward to working with Kevin.” said Sherry Senis, County Councillor Representative for PPRRC.
