A Proud Sports History

Our hometown hockey and lacrosse teams

  • The Peterborough Petes – one of the oldest and most successful Canadian Major Junior hockey teams. In addition to being the 2023 OHL Champions, this team has produced a record number of NHL players and coaches.
  • The Peterborough Lakers Major Series Lacrosse team is a nine-time Mann Cup national championship winner.

Excellent outdoor adventures

Peterborough & the Kawarthas is well-known as a training ground for legendary sports talent. Here are some of the things we’re most proud of.

Our region is an excellent choice for outdoor adventure competitions, including road cycling, mountain biking, gravel cycling, and fantastic paddling opportunities.

Growth in sports on the land and water

There has been exponential growth, support, and provincial success for rugby, lawn bowling, long-distance and trail running, cyclo-cross, and cross-country skiing.

Our region is a well-known rowing destination, largely in part to Trent University’s reputation for cultivating incredible rowing talent and inviting other rowing athletes here each year for the annual Head of the Trent rowing regatta (the largest single-day event of its kind in North America).
