Peterborough’s long and storied history as a sports hotspot has fostered both the supportive culture and necessary infrastructure for hosting fantastic tournaments, competitions and sports events. Our regional approach to attracting sports business provides for successful events that are unique and seamless.
Peterborough & the Kawarthas is known for its hockey and lacrosse heritage – home to one of the oldest and most successful Canadian Major Junior hockey teams – The Peterborough Petes, who have produced a record number of NHL players and coaches, and the Peterborough Lakers Major Series Lacrosse team; nine-time Mann Cup national championship winners.
The area is steadily increasing its reputation as an excellent choice for outdoor adventure competition including road cycling, mountain biking and gravel cycling, and fantastic paddling opportunities. There has been exponential growth, support and provincial success for rugby, lawn bowling, long distance and trail running, cyclo-cross and cross-country skiing, not to mention a long standing history of rowing success connected to Trent University, who’s Head of the Trent rowing regatta is the largest single day event of its kind in North America.
