Peterborough Economic Development Announces 5 Year Strategic Plan

By Kelly Jessup

[PETERBOROUGH, ON] This morning, Peterborough Economic Development’s (PED) Board of Directors announced their 2015-2019 Strategic Plan. PED hosted a stakeholder information session to present details about the vision, overall direction and goals related to the community economic development strategic plan, and how they will be achieved.

The five-year strategic plan is based on the understanding that creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship will lead the transformation required to achieve a high-performing economy. The plan has three areas of focus: advancing prosperity; creating a culture of startups & entrepreneurship; and telling the Peterborough region’s story. In order to succeed, we must tap into, engage, and harness the power of the people of our community to become active economic development champions and ambassadors.

Peter Gaffney, PED Board Chair explained “This plan is owned, approved and endorsed by the 14 community leaders on our Board, and we are confident that with the direction of President & CEO Dan Taylor, the staff at Peterborough Economic Development will lead the transformation.”

Michael Skinner, Board Member and Chair of the PED Strategic Planning Committee is proud of the plan and excited for the next phase of implementation.

“Over the past year, with the help of over 60 people and 35 different organizations we developed a plan that took into account the diversity and strengths of our region. We are very pleased with the outcome, and truly feel that our region has tremendous potential. By clarifying our new direction we will be able to collectively make our region an economic success story.”

This process resulted in a plan that paints a clear picture of what is required to build a more prosperous Peterborough Region. The plan refines the role of PED and emphasizes the importance of working closely with partners and the community in order to successfully grow the economy.
