Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism Takes Home Two Provincial Awards
On Tuesday November 7th, representatives from Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism, a division of Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development, were in attendance at the Ontario Tourism Awards of Excellence where they received two awards: Tourism Marketing Campaign Award (under $50K) and the Culinary Tourism Leadership Award.
The two awards come as a result of focused efforts on the development of experiential travel opportunities that highlight the region’s strengths and natural assets.
“We are very excited to see that our work is making an impact in the tourism industry and to have our initiatives recognized with two provincial awards,” affirms Tracie Bertrand, Director of Tourism & Communications with Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development. “Our team is delivering experiences that set our destination apart from anywhere else, and it is wonderful to have that hard work appreciated and applauded by the tourism industry in the Province.”
Peterborough & the Kawarthas Tourism (PKT) was the recipient of the Culinary Tourism Leadership Award for Under Water Dining at Lock 21, which launched earlier this year. Under Water Dining at Lock 21 is a new Peterborough & the Kawarthas signature experience that takes visitors on a hands-on, historical dining experience through, inside and under the world’s highest hydraulic lift lock featuring a locally-inspired menu by Tres Hombres. This experience was developed in partnership with Parks Canada (Trent-Severn Waterway), the Canadian Canoe Museum, and the support of Regional Tourism Organization 8 and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture & Sport.
PKT also received the Tourism Marketing Campaign Award (under $50K) for their 2016 Cycling Campaign – “Grab Life by the Handlebars”. This campaign focused on boosting cycle tourism in the region by building awareness of the newly developed Peterborough & the Kawarthas Classics Road Cycling Routes.
