WDB and PKED Partner to Promote New Local Jobs Hub Tool
[PETERBOROUGH, ON]: The Workforce Development Board (WDB) and Peterborough & the Kawarthas Economic Development (PKED) are joining forces to raise awareness of the WDB’s Local Jobs Hub tool to help support employers and job seekers within the region.
The Workforce Development Board’s Local Jobs Hub is a powerful tool which aggregates job postings in the local area from nearly 30 different job sites. Not only is it a helpful tool for job seekers, it is also a valuable opportunity for employers who are posting job opportunities on any of the sites the tool aggregates.
“Through the Mayor & Warden’s Economic Recovery Task Force, we’ve heard that there are a number of employers that are having a difficult time filling vacant positions. We have also heard that local employment is an important factor for post-secondary students to return to the region. The Workforce Development Board’s job hub provides a daily snapshot of the employment opportunities that exist in this region. Collaboration between PKED and the Workforce Development Board to promote the WDB Local Jobs Hub tool is an important action towards economic recovery that we can take to support workforce development and get people working,” said PKED’s President and CEO, Rhonda Keenan.
While employers can’t post to the Local Jobs Hub directly, when an employer posts on any of the top job posting websites for the region, the Local Jobs Hub automatically picks up the job posting and makes it go further; by reaching thousands of users from across Peterborough, Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland, Haliburton & Muskoka.
“WDB is pleased to partner with PKED to increase the awareness and use of WDB’s Local Jobs Hub. The tool is a one-stop local online resource for job seekers. The Local Jobs Hub includes a Regional Job Map that displays jobs in proximity to local services and supports like childcare, schools, and healthcare and the Regional Job Listings provides one central resource for local online job postings. Job seekers can filter postings by skill type, duration, and full time or part time, for example, to refine their search for employment opportunities. For employers, the Local Jobs Hub displays their posting in both the Map and Listings tools.” said WDB CEO, Jennifer Lamantia.
The WDB provides labour market information, coordinates employment and training services and engages with employer communities, including championing workforce development initiatives which aim to develop a competitive, innovative and skilled workforce. The mandate of the WDB is strategically aligned with PKED’s mandate to facilitate an environment which will contribute to the creation of wealth, the growth of new employment and the development of an improving quality of life for area residents
