6 Starter Company Plus Grant Winners Announced
[PETERBOROUGH, ON]: This morning, Peterborough & the Kawarthas Business Advisory Centre announced $30,000 in funding to support six local entrepreneurs with their business growth.
This announcement of funding is for participants in the Winter intake of 2021 for the Starter Company Plus, a Government of Ontario funded program. This program, which has been running since March 2017, supports entrepreneurs in starting, growing or acquiring a business, offering a robust series of workshops to support the creation of a formalized business plan, culminating in the chance to pitch for competitive grant dollars. This intake’s grant recipients are:
Christine Jaros: VerminiX – Pest Control Company
VerminiX offers pest control solutions for: residential, commercial and cottage customers in the Peterborough area. Specializing in difficult interior wasp and bee removal without the use of chemicals. Exterminations services are all delivered using an IPM (Integrated Pest Management) system to integrate safe and effective solutions for your most difficult pest challenges.
Fenna Renee Green: Daily Development
Daily Development was established in 2017 to provide 1 to 1 support for people with disabilities and their families. Daily Development provides the opportunity for individuals and families to plan for the future, work on everyday skills, and a live a life that is of their choosing. Each client is supported in a personal and individual way backed with education and knowledge in Psychology and Developmental Services.
Lia Gomez Lowe: Full Bloom Health
At Full Bloom Health, I offer holistic nutrition counselling to women in the Perinatal stages of life. I support women from preconception, throughout pregnancy and into postpartum with the use of food, supplements and lifestyle additions. This is the most energetically, emotionally, and nutritionally demanding time in a woman’s life and I want to show women that they do have some control and can feel good and nourished throughout this time. With my training, experience and passion surrounding this time in life, I know that I can make a difference in women’s lives.
Mike Frampton: Tragically Dipped Donuts
Tragically Dipped Donuts is an old school coffee shop disguised as a food truck. Offering fresh handmade donuts, all-day breakfast, and amazing locally roasted Coffee. Tragically Dipped’s focus is on quality, simple, and local ingredients. Made in our community for our community. Pop-ups, events, and weekly orders will also be available.
Scott D. Bain and Sandy Spremo: The K9 Clipper
The K9 Clipper is a developing, west end Peterborough dog grooming business set to open this spring (2021). Initially, it will be offering bathing, skin care, clipping, styling and general grooming services for your pet. The business will eventually be offering dog walking services, and pet related retail sales.
As animal advocates, we have devoted thousands of volunteer hours toward supporting rescued dogs, cats, and horses. The K9 Clipper will also help support animal rescue and welfare organizations through various fundraising drives and programs.
E. Tristan Pulham and Tyler O’Conner: Elemental Tree Care
Here at Elemental Tree Care we provide a wide range of services for all your tree care needs. We are locally owned and operated out of Bridgenorth, Ontario, just outside of Peterborough. We are a full service company, from hazardous removals, tree pruning, plant health care services and beyond. We are all about dedication to our clients and their trees. We take pride in being certified arborists and hold ourselves to a high standard. Through constant training, years of experience and knowledge, we strive to keep current to provide you with the best tree and shrub care possible. We will work with you to make a plan for your trees that works for you!
“Even after a difficult year, entrepreneurs and small business owners in Peterborough & the Kawarthas have shown up. With both new startups and expansions, this intake of the Starter Company Plus was a diverse and unique group. I am very proud of all 12 businesses that participated in the program and am honoured to have had the chance to watch their businesses take shape. They will, without a doubt, add to our community as a whole,” explains Hillary Manion, the Entrepreneurship Officer who oversees the Starter Company Plus program. “Since this program began in March 2017, we have seen over 163 entrepreneurs in Peterborough & the Kawarthas have gone through the program with $313,000 (including this intake) in grants awarded.”
This program has been a key stepping-stone for businesses and entrepreneurs looking to grow in the region. The Starter Company Plus program has resulted in the creation of 84 startups and supported 49 business expansions. The program has also seen the opening of 23 brick-and-mortar locations in the region, and has created 155 jobs in the local community.
