PKED Strategic Plan Progress Report (Q1 + Q2)

Outlook on the first half of 2022

The first half of 2022 continues to be a test of adaptability and resilience. Continuing surges of Covid-19 variants, a shocking war in the Ukraine, broken supply chains, rising costs of supplies, upcoming elections, and tragic humanitarian and social crises have started a year like no other. Despite these difficult conditions, local businesses continue to adapt and show their resilience. Businesses are hiring and the sheer number of career fairs in the first two quarters of this year, show that our businesses are gearing up for growth. They are actively looking to employ residents. New funding programs to support workforce development have been launched, in addition to a new program geared towards developing the tourism sector.

Although there are still troubling times ahead, PKED believes that anyone that has operated a private, public, or not-for-profit business during these last few years with success, can handle anything. Local businesses have managed to adapt to unimaginable obstacles time and time again, but they continue to stay open and, in some cases, grow. We are grateful to have this heightened level of resilience in Peterborough & the Kawarthas and we are looking forward to a dynamic second half of 2022.
