Career Ladders & Local Employer Profile Series
A key deliverable of the Pathways to Prosperity Program was a collaboration with the Workforce Development Board on the development of career ladders for some of the region’s most in-demand employment sectors.
Entry-level jobs provide an opportunity to learn basic skills and gain experience; however, these jobs are often paid the minimum wage, and wages in many entry-level jobs are unlikely to increase significantly. This program will help to identify potential career pathways from entry-level positions to more skilled and higher-wage jobs within the industry. For example, a job as a cook, with proper training and experience, could lead to an occupation such as a meat cutter, quality assurance inspector, caterer, food sales representative and potentially, entrepreneur.
These interactive career ladders and accompanying rack cards contain information about hourly wages, job descriptions, main job duties, examples of job titles, general skills, and links to educational courses, training opportunities, and local jobs currently available in each sector.
In addition to the career ladders for each in-demand sector, a series of profile videos were developed featuring local employers currently hiring in Peterborough & the Kawarthas and The City of Kawartha Lakes to demonstrate the opportunities in high-demand career paths.
