Multi-Awarded Auto Industry Supplier Stays The Course
Located on Technology Drive in Peterborough, Ventra Plastics manufactures, assembles and ships major exterior vehicle components, such as large fascia and bumper assemblies, to OEMs (Original Engineer Manufacturers) in Canada and the United States.
A division of international conglomerate Flex-N-Gate that acquired Ventra Group in 2001, Ventra Plastics’ success has been, and remains, fuelled by a wholly committed local workforce. With its success predominantly dependent on the fortunes of the auto industry, Ventra Plastics has had to be highly resilient, adapting quickly to shifts in the demand for its products as the auto industry reinvents itself. As General Manager Mark Bateman notes, there have been times when Ventra Plastics has had to “look for other things outside of the box to remain cost competitive in the marketplace.” An example of that occurred in 2020 when Ventra Plastics partnered with other companies, Harco Enterprises among them, to produce protective COVID-19 face shields for the Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
Bateman adds Ventra Plastics’ “biggest asset” – its skilled and dedicated workforce – is a direct result of it calling the region home. “What gets me up every morning to come to work is the people here…they care,” adds Bateman. Proof of that is clearly evident in Ventra Plastics having received numerous industry awards over the years recognizing not only the quality of its product but also the efficiency of its manufacturing processes, the most recent example being multiple 2021 Supplier of the Year and Quality Excellence honours from Toyota, Nissan and General Motors, as well as the Ford Motor Company World Excellence Award.
